Buoyed by festive demand and a boost from the recent GST rate cut, India’s auto industry witnessed record monthly sales, with Tata Motors overtaking Mahindra & Mahindra in overall volumes.
However, SUVs continued to dominate buyer preferences across brands
Maruti Suzuki posted a robust 10.5% year-on-year growth and achieved its highest ever domestic sales of 1,80,675 units.
The compact segment, which includes Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, grew to 76,143 units from 65,948. SUVs like Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara climbed 9.8% to 77,571 units from 70,644 last year.
However, sales of small cars like the Alto and S-Presso fell to 9,067 units, down from 10,687 in October 2024 – a 15% drop.

Kia India also posted impressive earnings with 30% year-on-year growth and 29,556 units sold. Sonet led the charge, accounting for 12,745 units.
Toyota reported sales of 42,892 units, a significant jump from 30,845 in the same period last year.
