Ferrari announced an extension of the Formula 1 team director Fred Vasseur, who showed a clear belief in the leadership of the French and his ability to lead the team back to the success of the championship.
The 57 -year -old Vasseur took the lead at the beginning of the 2023 season and played a major role in ensuring the seven -time World Champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes. Despite this significant step, his position came under control at the beginning of this year after reports that Ferrari had explored the opportunity to bring the former Red Bull boss Christian Horner, who was released in July.
CEO Ferrari Benedetto Vigna dealt with a decision in a statement published before the Hungarian Grand Prix.
“Today we want to know what was built and commit to what we still need to achieve,” Vigna said. “It reflects our confidence in Freds, the trust rooted in shared ambitions, mutual expectations and clear responsibility.”
Although he is currently sitting second in the constructors championship, Ferrari Trail McLaren with a massive 268 points of 13 of the 24 planned races. Hamilton, who joined the team this season, has to end up on stage for Ferrari, even though he managed to win the Sprint race in Shanghai.
Carlos Sainz, a former Ferrari driver, now races with Williams, welcomed the decision to maintain Vasseur.
“From the outside, it just looks like they want to cancel the noise,” Sainz said at Hungary. “There’s so much noise around Ferrari. I’m happy for Fred – I’m sure she’ll do a good job.”
Vasseur perceived the extension as a confirmation and challenge.
“I am grateful for the Trust Ferrari, which will continue to place in me,” he said. “This renewal is not just a confirmation – it is a challenge to continue the procedure, remain concentrated and delivered. Over the past 30 months, we have laid strong foundations. Now we have to build on them with consistency and determination.”
Hamilton also reaffirmed his support to Vasseur.
“Fred is the main reason I am in this team“Hamilton said.” I believe he is the one who takes us to the top. “
Ferrari last won the title of designers in 2008. Their last drivers champion was Kimi Raikkonen in 2007-long drought, which the team hopes to end up under Vasseurs ongoing leadership.
