FDP on mentoring and teaching skills starts at VVCE

A two-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) titled ‘Be a Great Mentor and Be a Good Teacher’ was launched at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) in Mysuru on Friday to equip newly recruited faculty members with effective mentoring and student-centred teaching.
The program was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) with the aim of strengthening mentoring capabilities and improving teaching competencies of newly recruited faculty.
Logasakthi Kandasamy, Associate Professor, School of Business, RV University, Bengaluru, inaugurated the program in the presence of B. Sadashiv Gowda, Director, VVCE, Shobha Shankar, Deputy Director and Dean (Academic Affairs), and Divya CD, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and IQAC Coordinator.
Addressing the participants, Mr. Kandasamy emphasized the vital role of mentoring in shaping the academic, professional and personal development of students. He emphasized that an effective mentor should have empathy, strong communication skills, leadership skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
He also explained the difference between mentoring, teaching and coaching and highlighted the unique responsibility of a mentor in guiding students beyond the academic world.
