FCRA rules tightened: NGOs must declare accounts on social networks, comply with specified activities; political content prohibited

Story So Far: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on 22 June 2026 notified the Foreign Contributions Amendment (Regulation) Rules, 2026 to amend the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) (FC) Rules, 2011.
The rules enable the implementation of a law passed by Parliament and must be notified in the Gazette of India. The FC Basic Rules were published in the Gazette on 29 April 2011 and subsequently amended nine times in 2015, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024 and no later than 26 May 2025. This is the tenth amendment to the rules under the Foreign Contribution Act (RegRAFC) 2012
