Farmers and trade union staff on Wednesday organized protests against free trade agreements (FTA) and claimed that they were damaging the Indian agricultural sector.
As part of the call of the “termination of businesses”, which gathered Samyukt Kisan Morch and the amicable committee of central trade unions, farmers, workers, tenants and agricultural workers, the portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump gathered and burned.
The speakers compared India-USA FTA with earlier Gatt, Dunkel and WTO shops and claimed to prefer corporate interests at the expense of farmers. They argued that agreements allow foreign companies to control machines and Agri produce markets and quote rules such as the abolition of ten -year tractors as exploitation. Demonstrators warned that these contracts could destroy agriculture, transfer land to businesses and damage the aquaculture through American tariffs.
Their requirements included scrapping of Trump-Era tariffs, implementation of MSP Swaminathan Commission recommendations for all crops, surrender of loans for farmers, tenants and agricultural workers, reversal of opposite work laws and public sector business.
The protest was addressed by Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham State Common Common Secretary K. Srinivas, Bkmy State Vice President Bandi Venkateswara Rao Sheikh Basha, Secretary General Aiks SK Ghouse, President DANSE.
