Dozens of farmers gathered under the auspices of Akhil Bharata Aikya Rythu Sangham (AIUKS) at Yelland in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Monday demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and introduction of C2 + 50% formula for MSP.
Farmers from different parts of the tribal-dominated district participated in a rally held on the occasion of the first AIIKS national conference in the coal town of Yelland.
AIUKS national leader Pradeep Singh Tagore, national convener Kechela Ranga Reddy, CPI (M) Mass Line state secretary Potu Ranga Rao, former Yellandu MLA Gummadi Narsaiah and others led the rally.
AIIKS leaders from Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka and various other parts of the country also attended the rally.
The rally culminated in a public meeting near the new bus stand, a press release said.
Addressing a farmers’ rally, Mr. Ranga Reddy said the crisis in agriculture has worsened due to the implementation of “anti-farmer” and “pro-imperialist” policies by the BJP-led central government in the last 12 years.
He said it was imperative to build a strong mass movement to protect the agricultural sector and farmers’ interests.
