Farmers protest against land acquisition for Reliance Data Center

Several farmers in Vizianagaram district have taken a unique step to protest against land acquisition for Reliance data center which needs around 850 acres of land in Bhogapuram mandal of Vizianagaram district. For the past few days, they have been staging a protest by standing in front of the mandal parish officer and taking off their shirts.

Currently, the government has around 50 acres of land and needed to acquire 800 acres of land for the project. Several farmers have already approached the AP High Court.

They boycotted the meeting organized by Bhogapuram Mandal Development Officer D. Swarupa Rani on Friday.

“About 250 acres fall under the land category. Farmers cannot sell it to private entities. But the government can restore it after paying them compensation,” said a senior official.

He said that the farmers should wait for the court’s order while saying that the acquisition is being done in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Land Acquisition Act. According to him, land is needed in Polipalli, Bhogapuram East and West areas. The government hopes that with the establishment of the data center, the Bhogapuram area will develop rapidly.
