Farmers led by BRS leaders protest at canal regulator in Choppadandi and seek release of SRSP water
Farmers led by BRS leaders on Wednesday staged a protest at SRSP D-86 canal regulator at Choppadandi in Karimnagar district demanding release of irrigation water to save standing crops in Choppadandi and Karimnagar Assembly constituencies.
BRS leaders claimed that crops were facing the threat of drying up due to lack of water and demanded equitable distribution of SRSP water including the tail end areas.
Amid slogans demanding the immediate release of 300 cusecs of water into the D-83 and D-86 canals, BRS leaders reportedly tried to lift the canal’s control gates.
Karimnagar MLA G. Kamalakar, Choppadandi former MLA S. Ravishankar and others took part in the protest.
According to BRS sources, the irrigation officials agreed to release the water after the protest.
