Delegation of farmers’ leaders met on Thursday with the main Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiaha in Bengalur and urged him to deal with the problems facing the agricultural community.
The delegation, led by Korururo Shanthakumar of Mysubur Mysur, emphasized the loss of crops due to heavy rains, insufficient support of sugar cane prices, and waiting underpays, in addition to the requirements related to irrigation and land acquisition.
They urged the government to formulate a project to tow 38,000 lakes throughout the state to ensure water supply on agricultural land. Given the increasing costs of cultivation, the leaders demanded that the state set another state consulting price (SAP) over and above the fair and reward (FRP) for sugar cane in the years 2025–26, said the Association.
Pointing out that the arrears of 150 GBP for a ton of sugar cane announced in addition to 2023-24, have not yet been removed, the delegation sought to settle fees. They also sought scientific assessment of crops damage with a compensation of 25,000 GBP for acre for crops fed rain and 40 000 GBP per acre for irrigated crops.
The leaders also demanded that the agricultural land acquired by the Karnataka (KIADB) Council (KIADB), but remained unused farmers in the last 25 years.
The leaders welcomed the government’s decision to acquire Paddy, Ragi and Jaro within the SME system and called on the main minister to include organizations of farmers’ producers (FPOs) in public procurement together with cooperative companies and self -help groups.
In addition to Mr. Shanthakumar, the Ballor Ravikumar delegation, General Secretary of Karnataka Rajya Raith Sangh, belonged; Caribasapp Gowd, State President, Hasira Sen; Atahalli Devaraj, State Secretary; NH Devakumar, prosecutor; Baradanapura Nagaraj, district Secretary General; And several other leader leaders.
