Looking at the Bhimasingi sugar factory in the Jami Mandal district from the Vizianagararam district. Operations were stopped five years ago.
Closing the cooperative sugar factory SRI Vijayarama Gajapathi in Bhimasingi of Jami Mandal and NCS Sugars Limited Factory in Sithanagaram significantly influenced the livelihood of many farmers and local residents in the district of Vizianagaram.
The Sugar Factory SRI VIJAYARAMA GAJAPATHI, founded in 1960 in Bhimasingi, ceased surgery in 2020 due to frequent machine failures. The Government Technical Commission recommended modernization to ensure the profitability of the company. However, the YSRCP government postponed the proposal of modernization and remained in need.
Meanwhile, the NCS Sugars factory has stopped the factory due to increasing financial losses. Later, the company sold part of its land to clean up the debts and pay farmers who supplied sugar cane.
With closed sugar factories, the Sankili Sugar Factory was the closest processing facility. However, the high costs associated with the transport of sugar cane to sanctius moved many farmers to growing other crops as an alternative.
Loksatta’s state president Bhisetti recently urged the government to ensure the modernization of confectionery by including Ethanol production and other by -products and to ensure better rates for sugar factory in these companies.
The leaders of the Association of Bhimasingi Sugar Factory Workers U. Srino, Roth Kanakaraju, urged the government to clean up the waiting fees for interim funds and other benefits of employees for those who lost their living by the factory.
Dantuluri Varma Secretary of Rythu Coolie Sangham of Andhra Pradesh said: The cultivation of sugar cane in the district has fallen from 70,000 acres to only 7,000 acres. Hundreds of farmers appealed to the state government to revive these factories and restore their livelihood.
