Farmers are not an exploiter of nature, but they are its protectors, Mar Remigiose Inchaniyil, bishop of the Thamarasers diocese in the Syro-Malabar church.
On Saturday, May 10, he opened the purity drive on the Thamarassery Ghat road, organized by the diocese to mark the 40th anniversary celebrations. Mr. Inchaniiyil pointed out that those who accused farmers of exploiting nature should see the number of those who got on the Ghat road early in the morning to take part in the ride. He said all the waste on Ghat Road and was generated by people through the state. The accumulation of waste in public has become an embarrassing reality for Kera, he added.
According to sources, a large number of people, including people from farmers’ families, participated in the drive and cleaned the waste from Adivaram in Puthuppady to Lakkidi, Wayanad. Plastic waste and glass bottles were obtained by the Puthuppady Gram Panchayat authorities for disposal. The diocese also plans to implement a system for collecting segregated waste from its members.
