
Coconut plantations in parts of Chikkamagaluru were inundated due to heavy rains in the last two days and a farmer was found dead after accidentally falling into the stream.
Lakshman Gowda, a resident of Devagondanahalli in Chikkamagaluru taluk, went missing on Tuesday evening. He was at the rear buffalo and did not return. His body was found on Wednesday. Many plantations in Kadur taluk were inundated when water bodies overflowed due to heavy rains.
Vehicular movement has been severely affected in the region.
Chikkamagaluru district recorded an average of 52.3 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours that ended at 8:30 am on Thursday, against the normal 5.2 mm of rainfall for the day. The highest rainfall of 78.5 mm was recorded in Kalasa taluk. Kadur recorded 43.7 mm against the normal 3.9 mm. Chikkamagaluru taluk registered 49.5 mm against the normal of 3.3 mm.
Mudigere recorded 75.3 mm against the normal of 6.2 mm. Chikkamagaluru district has received 1,946 mm of rainfall since January 1 this year against the normal of 1,734 mm, recording a deviation of 12% from normal.
Neighboring shivamogga recorded a diameter of 16.3 mm against the normal of 5.4 mm. Hasan recorded 50.6 mm against the normal of 6.7 mm.
