Farmer dies in ‘tiger attack’ in Chamarajanagar
A 65-year-old farmer was allegedly mauled to death by a tiger at Badagalapur in Chamarajanagar district on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Basavanna. According to reports reaching here, he had gone to his agricultural field and was working there when the alleged attack took place. His body was later found in a crushed state.
The incident came to light after Basavanna did not return home from the playground. His family members and villagers launched a search for him and found his body in an agricultural field.
The suspected tiger attack sparked angry protests by villagers and residents of nearby villages who expressed their anger against the forest department for its alleged failure to prevent wild animal attacks in the area.
Residents demanded compensation and a government job for one of his family members. The body was later shifted to Chamarajanagar Hospital for postmortem. The villagers demanded immediate capture of the elusive tiger.
