Families of flood victims in Nepal have appealed to submit DNA samples for identification

Krishna District Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu on Monday (September 28, 2026) appealed to the families of the victims of the recent Nepal floods to submit their biological samples for DNA testing.

The home ministry has issued guidelines offering free DNA profiling to identify the bodies or remains of victims, the SP said. The collected samples will be sent to Nepal to be compared with unidentified bodies or remains recovered from the disaster, he added.

Relatives, including parents, sons, daughters and siblings, are asked to visit nearby police stations and police officers will coordinate collection of samples at the Government Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Mr. Vidyasagar Naidu said in a release.

The families of the victims can submit the names of the missing persons in the tragedy and the police have been instructed to collect the details and cooperate with the families of the bereaved in the district, the SP said.
