Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday (May 30, 2026) said fair electoral rolls lead to fair elections and India was currently “at that juncture”.
In his inaugural address at the second National Conference of Advisers representing the Election Commission of India, Mr. Kumar also welcomed booth-level officers and booth-level agents as foot soldiers of electoral roll management and congratulated voters in the recently concluded assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal for their historic turnout.
“Fair results lead to fair polls. That is the moment today and India is in it,” he said, highlighting the high level of competition during these elections. He commended counsel for their dedicated efforts in representing the Commission before courts across the country.
The conference, which aimed to further strengthen the electoral body’s legal framework and strategy, was attended by lawyers representing the Commission before the Supreme Court and various High Courts across the country. The conference was also attended by Directors-General and senior officials of the Commission.
The conference, themed ‘A Year of Legal Challenges, Experiences, Learning and Ways Forward’, provides a vital platform for dialogue and exchange between the Commission and lawyers from across the country, the EC said in a statement.
The conference featured interactive sessions on key electoral processes such as electoral roll management, special intensive revision (SIR), voting and counting procedures and EVM demonstrations.
Meetings of advocates sharing experiences, together with discussions on electoral laws, court proceedings, legal reforms, institutional coordination, the role of media narratives and the EC’s technology-based initiatives, including ECINET, offered a platform to explore new issues in the electoral and legal landscape.
