Faeces found in government school water tank in Dindigul

Parents stage a protest at Manoor Panchayat Union Primary School in Dindigul district on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

In a shocking incident, faeces were reportedly found in the drinking water tank of a government school at Manoor near Palani in Dindigul district. This is the second such case reported in the district recently.

According to the police, more than 120 students are studying at Manoor Panchayat Union Primary School, which is located in Keeranur police station area.

The incident was reported when the school reopened on October 5 after a quarterly break for exams. The director had the water tank cleaned.

The issue was also raised during the Parents and School Management Association meeting held at the school on Wednesday. Parents, angered by the incident, staged a protest and accused the school management of negligence regarding the safety of the students.

As the situation escalated, Dindigul Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar visited the school and inspected the water tank on the premises. He directed the police to quickly intervene and arrest those involved in the offence.

The Keeranur police registered a case under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on a complaint lodged by the principal. An investigation is underway.

District education officials also visited the school and met with parents and school management.

The principal said cleaning work was done to prevent students from drinking water from the contaminated tank and the issue was reported to higher authorities.

In August, faeces were found near the water tank of the Government Higher Secondary School at Thangamapatti in the district. The notice was also found near the water tank.

However, when authorities found the notice, it was wet and the text was illegible. Dindigul Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar visited the school and inspected the water tank.
