McLaren’s Lando Norris on Sunday 25th May on the Monaco Grand Prix of the dream victory and transformed the position of the pole into his second victory of the season and sliced Formula 1 Oscar Championship into only three points.
Monte Carlo Street offered little to overtaking, but that did not prevent Norris from the commanding performance. The British driver postponed pressure from his teammate Piastriho and Ferrari Charles Leclerca to win the first victory in McLaren, Lewis Hamilton in 2008.
“That’s what I dreamed of when I was a child. I achieved one of my dreams,” Norris said after led all four cars and navigating a process race with two mandatory stops.
Leclerc finished second in his home race, followed by Piastri in the third and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the fourth – all four drivers crossing the line in the same order they started.
While the new rule of two feet added a layer of strategy, it failed to shake the usual order of Monaco. Verstappen delayed his final stop until the penultimate round in the hope of a security car that never came.
“Very exciting. I was on the edge of my seat every round,” Verstappen joked sarcastically. “Maybe next year four stops. Today I could make four stops and still finish P4.”
Norris locked briefly at the beginning, but held his nerves all the time. When he crossed the finish line, he exclaimed through Team Radio: “Monaco baby!”
Victory, his second season 2025 after the triumph in Australia, refers to another milestone for Norrisa and further increases the title data of McLarena. The team expanded its advantage over Mercedes in the ranking of constructors to 172 points, while Red Bull was four more in a row.
Desmal Day for Mercedes
Mercedes lasted another rough trip. George Russell served departure and finished 11th, while newcomer Kimi Antonelli finished 18th, the last classified finish. “In the end, qualification 14 and 15, there was nothing you could do,” Russell said.
Ferrari Lewis Hamilton saved the fifth place and won two places from the post-qualification punishment. Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar took the sixth, Haas’s Esteban Ocon was seventh and Liam Lawson scored his first season points in the eighth for racing bulls. Williams finished Top 10 with Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz.
Incidents and retirement
The race saw very little overtake. The virtual security car was deployed on LAP one after Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto hit the tire wall in Portier, re -connected without much damage. Antonelli’s Bortolet Pass, perhaps the only pure overtaking, was one of the rare pieces of the event-if Russell’s Chicane-cutting move on Albona, which earned his punishment.
Alpine’s Pierre Gasly retired soon after he hit Yuki Tsunod at the tunnel output and quoted brake failure. He almost collided with his teammate Franco Colapinto as he was limping into the pit. Later Fernando Alonso retired by bike 38 with Aston Martin smoking and spread his insignificant stripe.
