Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday (July 9, 2026) upped the ante on the Ram temple donation row, demanding that the detailed call records of everyone employed at the temple in Ayodhya be probed, claiming that 99.9% of them would have links to the BJP.
He said such a revelation would create “turbulence” within the ruling BJP.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Yadav also accused the BJP of putting electoral considerations above religious values.
Referring to the SIT probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple, Ram said the probe has become a topic of discussion “in every household”.
“All the detailed call records (CDRs) of those who worked in the temple complex should be examined. The moment the CDRs are examined, 99.9% of them will turn out to be BJP people. You cannot imagine the ‘bhagdad’ (riot) that will break out in the BJP. The exodus has already started and many people have already started contacting us,” Mr Yadav said.
The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh alleged that the BJP was changing its ideology according to electoral convenience.

“BJP is changing its ideas about votes. For them, money is more important than religion. We have seen what happened (in Ayodhya). Those who gave responsibility are nowhere to be seen, while those who were given responsibility are facing questions. Where are those who gave responsibility (in Ram temple),” he said.
Mr. Yadav said Sanatan Dharma devotees around the world are worried.
“The entire Sanatan community is worried. Lord Ram is worshiped as ‘Maryada Purushottam’ but the BJP has twisted and distorted these ideals for its own political interests,” he alleged.
Mr. Yadav alleged that he had committed wrongdoing in handling donations and offerings from devotees.
“Today, every household is discussing SIT. There are allegations regarding gifts and offerings. There is no greater sin in Sanatan Dharma than stealing offerings from devotees. They have committed a grave sin. Followers of Sanatan Dharma are deeply emotional when it comes to matters of faith,” he said.
On BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s allegations against him, Mr Yadav asked why no FIR was registered against the ruling party despite the allegations leveled.
In the post, Mr. Dubey alleged that Mr. Yadav had links to the gift theft accused Ramshankar alias Tinnu Yadav.
“FIRs are registered on the opposition while FIRs from the opposition are not registered. It is not about one individual. It is heard that they (BJP) are backing down. They say we have made 980 calls… just think,” he added.
The SIT has arrested eight accused in connection with the alleged misappropriation of tenders.
Amid growing scrutiny, the Trust on Monday accepted the resignation of its general secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra. At the meeting of the Trust, she appointed Krishna Mohan as the Interim General Secretary.
