Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine has stressed the need to seriously consider seawater desalination facilities to address future drinking water requirements in the state.
The minister’s remarks came at a high-level meeting on Wednesday to discuss the water status of the reservoirs during the summer. The demand for drinking water is increasing every year and Kerala may have to seriously explore options like desalination in the near future, he said.
