Arshdeep was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “throwing the ball (or any other cricket equipment) at or near a player during an international match in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner,” an ICC media release said on Tuesday.The incident occurred in the 11th over of the New Zealand national cricket team’s innings when Arshdeep fielded the ball on his drive and aggressively hurled it back, hitting the Black Caps vice-captain’s pads on Sunday.India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs to become the first team to win three ICC Men’s World Cup T20 titles. The Indian national cricket team also became the first team to successfully defend the title and win the tournament on home soil.Arshdeep accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, third umpire Allahuddien Paleker and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock.A Level 1 breach carries a minimum penalty of an official warning and a maximum fine of 50 per cent of the player’s match fee plus one or two demerit points.

What the Rule Says (ICC Code of Conduct)
- Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct deals with throwing the ball or any cricket equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during an international match.
- This rule applies to players and player support staff involved in international cricket.
- A Level 1 violation carries a minimum penalty of an official reprimand.
- The maximum penalty for a Level 1 offense is 50% of the player fee per match.
- An offense may also result in one or two demerit points being added to the player’s disciplinary record.
- Demerit points remain in the player’s records for 24 months from the date they were saved
- If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted to demerit points, which can lead to a ban.
