The postponed match means the two teams are separated by one point, which has complicated the semi-final run. This match was important for both teams to get off to a good start in the Super 8 stage. Instead, Pakistan and New Zealand now have two matches left to secure their place in the semi-finals.

For Pakistan, the path is clear but challenging. England and Sri Lanka await them next. If Pakistan wins both matches, it will reach five points, which should be enough to advance to the semi-finals. However, if they lose even one match, their chances of qualifying will depend on other results. If Pakistan win one match and lose one, they will end up with three points and need other teams to drop points. If they lose both matches, Pakistan will be out of the tournament.New Zealand is in a similar situation. The washout gives them one point, but they will also need wins in their remaining games to stay in control. Any slip up could drag them into a tight points race.As this was the first Super 8 match for both teams, the group standings will become clearer once all the teams have played at least one match. Both Pakistan and New Zealand were considered favourites, but rain made it difficult for them to reach the semi-finals.
