Continuing their efforts to enforce food safety, officials of the Food Safety Department of the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) have shut down the kitchen of the President’s Club at Sahakaranagar in Dollars Colony, Bengaluru for alleged violation of food safety norms and hygiene issues.

According to FSDA officials, the inspection was conducted on September 3 night on the instructions of Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader.
Officials said they encountered major violations in the club kitchen, including storage of 40 kg of expired chillies and mislabelling of 5 kg of breadcrumbs, which is not in compliance with FSSAI regulations. They alleged that highly unsanitary conditions were followed in food preparation and storage areas and use or storage of unauthorized and prohibited artificial colors in food products. The club allegedly failed to follow the required food safety measures in the storage and handling of food products, including joint storage of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items.
This violated the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Rules 2011.
While the department seized all expired food products, closed the kitchen and filed a legal action against the management of the President’s Club.
