A group of experts who visited the wetlands Kottooli in Kozhikode has identified the widespread destruction of the body that are subject to intervention and pollution.
The visit was part of a all -day study tour under the auspices of Saram Prakrithi Samritshan Samithi and Green Movement. In addition to scientists, environmentalists and retired officials, they selected students from Malabar Christian College, Holy Cross College, IRD College of Applied Sciences and Providence Women’s College and assessed the situation.
The well -known pediatrician Asha Prabhakar, who was part of the team on Sunday 28th September) stressed that the region was susceptible to water -transmitted diseases due to pollution caused by plastic accumulation, either directly or washes. There is a landfill yard where old electronic equipment and parts of the vehicle are stored, as a result, hazardous chemicals and solid waste, except oil waste, are washed into wetlands. The lights of high masts led to a decrease in the arrival of birds, migratory and others, to the region, emphasized.
The team visited the places where parts of the wetland were hit by construction waste. Increasing the concentration of invasive plant species has also become a threat to the wetland, the team stressed.
President Samithi Ajay Lal chaired a meeting held as part of a tour, which was launched by a social activist A.Vas.
