Experts call for development of climate resilient cities on World Environment Day at ITPI in Telangana

The Urban Planners Institute of India (ITPI), Telangana Regional Branch organized World Environment Day 2026 celebrations on June 5, 2026 at ITPI, Begumpet, Hyderabad under the global theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) CEO Ashok Reddy spoke as the chief guest and emphasized the need for collective efforts to conserve natural resources and build resilient cities for future generations.

ITPI Regional Branch Chairman and Director of Town and Country Planning S. Devendar Reddy emphasized the vital role of planners in promoting environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly urban development.

Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC) under its eco-tourism initiative ‘Deccan Woods & Trails’ celebrated the day with the active participation of nearly 80 volunteers from leading organizations including Cognizant, Trouw Nutrition India Pvt. Ltd. (a Nutreco company) and Nirmaan Organization.

Part of the program was the preparation of seed balls, a visit to the nursery and a ride on the plantations, all of which took place in the botanical garden with the active participation of volunteers.

As part of the global theme, an educational lecture was subsequently organized where botanists and naturalists emphasized the urgent need for environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, pollution reduction and sustainable resource management.
