MM Basheer, former head of Malayalam, University of Calicut, who was recently asked by V. Ravendran vice -chairman to explore the complaints about the inclusion of Rapper Hirandas Murali (Vedan) in the Sylabus of the Third Semester Ba (Malayalam), indicated that the song is removed.
AK Anuraj, a member of the Syndicate associated with the BJP, previously complained about VC and Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Alelekar, also the Chancellor of the University and said that the inclusion of the song in Sylab was inappropriate. In his report, Mr. Basheer pointed out in his report that the syllabus does not guarantee the comparison of the song Mr. Mural Bhumi Njan Vazhunn Idam and the song Michael Jackson, which they do not care about. The analysis and evaluation of the literary peculiarities of these songs were therefore irrelevant.
He also suggested that a comparative study on Kathakali Music and Carnatic Music citing the singer Gowri Lakshmi’s portrayal of Ayith Hare Madhavy … It could also be removed from syllabuses because it would be difficult to ask Malayalam who were not trained in these music streams to compare them.
