
On Thursday (April 3, 2025), three citizens of Myanmar were arrested for alleged trading in exotic animals near Mizoramova Zokhawtar, a trade town in the Champhai district.
The Assam Rifles team and the Ministry of Mizoram officials confiscated animals and arrested citizens of Myanmar.
The city of Zokhawthar is on the banks of the Tiau River, which is part of 510 km of the border between Mizoram and Myanmar.
Three Myanmar nationals tried to go to India, which bears animals in hidden containers, said paramedics of the paramilitary Assam rifle.
Mizoram’s wildlife officials said the 24 African turtles, three Patagonian maras and the Burmese Python Burmese were confiscated from people. Patagonian Mara is a hare similar to an animal found in Argentina.
The estimated value of the seized wildlife is 1.31 GBP crore, the spokesman said.
Arrested individuals, identified as Thawngsuangmunh, 26, Biakzapiang (26) and Jecy llnlnunmawia (31), are from the state of myanmar.
“The rescued animals together with the arrested individuals were handed over to the forest department in Champhai for further investigation and legal proceedings,” the spokesman said.
The Myanmar state of the chin is considered a baby for drug smuggling.
Drugs from Myanmar through Mizoram and neighboring manipur are smuggled to other parts of the country and Bangladesh. Most exotic animals are designed for southern and western India.
