Indian Medical Association (IMA) national president Dilip Bhanushali has urged the government to exempt doctors from the purview of the Consumer Protection Act-2019. He said the clauses of the Act were causing untold suffering to the medical fraternity. He was addressing a national conference organized by IMA’s College of General Practitioners in Vizianagaram on Saturday (December 6, 2025).
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, he said that many rules and regulations of the Consumer Protection Act and the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010 have dragged hundreds of doctors into legal entanglements.
Academic dean VS Prasad said doctors should develop knowledge in medical subjects and understand the laws of the country to manage hospitals in a systematic manner. He said that artificial intelligence will not have any adverse impact in the field of medicine. Organizing committee chairman M. Venkateswara Rao, former IMA president JC Naidu and others were also present.
