On Friday (August 1, 2025), the Supreme Court allowed MG Yogamaya to select a petition that questions the exclusion of female political workers from the extent of protection according to sexual harassment of women in the workplace (prevention, ban) of the 2013 or decorative law.
The bench headed by the chief judge of India Bravai said that the petitioner may take further necessary steps in accordance with the law.
The petition claims that there is no rational or understandable differentia that would exclude women in politics from protection available to women in other professions.
The reason represented by Shobha Gupta’s leader said that the definition of “workplace” and “employers” under the Law of 2013 must be extended to include a political spectrum.
“Despite the progressive plan of the law, women remain political workers, especially at local level, susceptible to sexual exploitation during campaigns and party work, without an effective legal axle within the current legislative framework,” he said.
