The Ernakulam Division of the Excise Department has submitted its report on the recent police case registered against a premium hotel in Kochi.

Deputy Excise Commissioner Ernakulam briefed the commissioner about the details of a case registered against the hotel for allegedly hosting a DJ party and selling liquor in its bar outside the permitted hours, in violation of the license conditions.

The report, according to Excise sources, highlighted the use of Section 55(h) of the Kerala Abkari Act (whoever prints, publishes or provides any advertisement soliciting the use or offering of any alcohol or intoxicating drug) and Section 56(b) (willfully does or omits to do anything contrary to the conditions of a license or permit).

Meanwhile, Excise Minister M. Liju on Tuesday asked the Excise Commissioner for an immediate report on the case against the hotel. “If it is found that illegal activities were taking place under the cover of a law license,” the minister’s officer said.

According to the first information report, the DJ party took place after advertisements encouraging the consumption of alcohol.
