“Yesterday it was water. Today it is fear. Tomorrow we don’t know what will remain,” says Manjamma, standing ankle-deep in the murky water of her one-room house in Jai Bheem Nagar.
A day after Bengaluru was hit by heavy rains and sudden hailstorm on Wednesday evening, the city is trying to return to normalcy. But in pockets of slums like Jai Bheem Nagar in Chalavadipalya ward, normal has long meant living on the fringes, where one spell of rain can destroy years of fragile stability.
