Evening rain catches Hyderabad commuters off guard

After a clear and sunny day, several parts of Hyderabad experienced light rain on Monday evening, July 20, which caught many commuters by surprise. The rain that lashed the city between 7pm and 9pm led to waterlogging at several places and slowed down traffic at several busy junctions.

The rain started shortly after 7 pm in several parts of the city, including Kukatpally, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Yousufguda, Ameerpet, Begumpet and Secunderabad. As many two-wheeler riders were unprepared for the sudden downpour, several were seen taking shelter under metro stations until the rain subsided. The showers brought much-needed relief from the hot, humid and mostly dry weather that Hyderabad has experienced since the beginning of July.

Mamidipalli received 28 mm rainfall, followed by 26.5 mm in Adibatl, 24.5 mm in Shamshabad, 16 mm in Mangalpally, 11 mm in Banjara Hills, 10.8 mm in Hafeezpet and 10.3 mm in Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), 10.3 mm in Madha Maspurk International Airport and 8 mm in Tan. Goshamahal, 7 mm in Charminar, 6.8 mm in Tarnaka and 6 mm in Jubilee Hills.
