
Olympian Esha Singh continued her form from last season by winning the women’s 10m air pistol gold at the Asian Championships on Wednesday. She also helped India secure the team gold on the opening day of the pistol and rifle tournaments.

Esha, 21, came from behind in the final to finish with a score of 239.8. She beat a shooter from Chinese Taipei. Cheng Yen-Ching claimed silver with 235.4 and Yu Ai-Wen finished third with 217.7. It was Esha’s second individual gold of the Senior Asian Championship. She had earlier won her first continental title in 2024 and also claimed gold at the ISSF World Championships in China last year.India’s Suruchi Singh was also in the final but finished fourth.She won gold at the season-ending ISSF World Championships in Ningbo, China, last year and won her first continental title in Jakarta in 2024 at the age of 19.Nineteen-year-old Suruchi led the final after the first 10 shots, but fell to fourth place during the elimination round.Paris Olympics bronze medalist Manu Bhaker finished seventh after the final.In the qualifiers, Suruchi stood second with 576, while Manu and Esha scored 575 points. Manu qualified ahead of Esha due to higher number of inner 10s.In the team competition, Suruchi, Manu and Esha combined to score a total of 1,726 to win the gold.Vietnam finished second with 1,713, while Chinese Taipei took third place with 1,711.Earlier, world champion Samrat Rana won the bronze medal in men’s 10m air pistol at the Asian Championships on Wednesday after falling short of qualifying form in the final.India fielded the largest squad in the championship with 118 shooters participating.
