Members of the Erode Urban District Congress Committee on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) sent 50 letters to the Indian President of the Murmo, which demanded that the WAQF change law be abolished.
Congress cadre led by the President of the Committee T. Thiruselvam said that the act that was approved in parliament has recently received presidential consent. They argued that the act of undermining the autonomy of WAQF properties and facilitating the seizure of countries used by members of the Muslim community.
According to them, it provides an amendment to the district collector to determine whether the property is the property of WAQF or not – the responsibility previously resolved by the WAQF court. They also stated that the permission of non -Muslim members on the WAQF councils is unacceptable because the Constitution guarantees the community of freedom of self -government. The letters urged the president to cancel the act to ensure that the community members would live without fear.
