Erling Haaland urges confidence in Man City Enzo Maresca after big 4-1 win against Palace

Erling Haaland has urged Manchester City to give Enzo Maresco time as the new manager’s thoughts begin to take shape following the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace. The win gave City maximum points from their opening two Premier League games and offered further encouragement after a difficult start.

City lost to Arsenal in the Community Shield before responding with back-to-back league wins, with Rayan Cherki and Haaland scoring twice at Selhurst Park. After the game, Haaland stressed that City are still learning how to get the best out of a revamped squad under their new manager.

“We have to keep playing together and find out where we are best and how to play,” Haaland said.

“We have so many good players and we have to adjust to each one. We have to keep going.”

Noro’s comments highlight the adjustment still needed at City, with Maresca attempting to introduce his methods while integrating players coming from different stages of their seasons.

HAALAND: THE CITY NEEDS TIME TO GEL

Haaland pointed to Cherki’s unusual pre-season situation, with the Frenchman playing at the World Cup just weeks before linking up with City, as an example of why the team needs time.

“I think at the start of the season it was hardly pre-season for everybody. Rayan played in the World Cup five weeks ago so it’s a step up and we’re taking it game by game,” he said.

The forward also praised Elliot Anderson’s performance and urged City to continue building their understanding rather than expecting instant perfection.

“It’s the right step in the right direction from everyone. Elliot was incredible. We have to build on that,” Haaland added.

He also made it clear that the players remain committed to Maresco’s approach.

“We know what we have to do and we have to trust the system and trust Enzo in what he wants us to do.

THE CITY OF MARESCA STARTS TO FIND ITS RHYTHM

City pushed for victory after Palace started brightly, but Haaland’s 17th-minute header gave the visitors the lead. Gianluigi Donnarumma’s unfortunate own goal briefly drew Palace level before Cherki struck twice in five minutes to put the game firmly City’s way.

Haaland completed the scoring in the 85th minute, continuing his strong start while giving Maresco another look at the attacking depth at his disposal.

Maresca admitted the opening spell was difficult but was pleased with the way City eventually took control.

“After 10 minutes we controlled the game on and off the ball and we deserved to win,” he said.

City face Coventry City at the Etihad on September 5 before traveling to Old Trafford for the first Manchester derby of the season against Manchester United on September 13. Their schedule for the start of the season will then include a Carabao Cup meeting with Norwich City and the start of their Champions League campaign.
