The US Justice Department on Tuesday (Dec 23) released thousands more files related to Jeffrey Epstein, including a controversial letter he allegedly wrote from prison to fellow convicted sex offender Larry Nassar shortly before his death.
Letter referring to Trump
According to the documents, the letter was dated August 13, 2019 and later returned to the sender. In it, Epstein appeared to refer to President Donald Trump, writing: “We shared one thing… our love and care for young ladies and the hope that they will reach their full potential. Our president also shares our love for young, noble girls.”
Epstein added another crass comparison: “When the young handsome man came around, he loved to ‘grab the mitts,’ while we ended up grabbing vermin in the mess halls of the system. Life is unfair.”
The timing of the letter
Epstein was found dead in his prison cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges. The letter was postmarked and sent three days after his death.
Who is Larry Nassar
Nassar, a former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University physician, was convicted on several counts between 2017 and 2018 of possessing child pornography and sexually assaulting young women and girls under the guise of medical treatment. He received sentences totaling a decade in prison, including a 60-year federal term, and additional state sentences ranging from 40 to 175 years and 40 to 125 years.
The US released fresh Epstein files with links to Trump’s travels
A new batch of files released Tuesday by the U.S. government related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein contains numerous references to Donald Trump, including documents detailing flights he allegedly took on Epstein’s private jet.
The newly released installment contains approximately 8,000 files with hundreds of videos and audio recordings. Among them is footage from August 2019, the same month Epstein was found dead in his New York prison cell after a death officially ruled a suicide.
According to the memo, “records we received yesterday reflect that Donald Trump traveled on Epstein’s private jet many more times than previously reported (or known).
The release is part of a broader effort by the Justice Department to release materials related to the Epstein investigation while continuing to redact sensitive information related to victims and witnesses.
