Jan Vignan Vedik, a forum that promotes scientific awareness and rational thinking among the public, organized a meeting on Sunday to clean the air of unscientific claims against Conocarpus from Yemen.
The environmentalist and pensioner of the professor of botany K. Bayyap Reddy, who played an important role in environmental permits for various irrigation projects, studied Conocarpus for four years. Mr. Bayyapa Reddy said: “The plant was created in Yemen and is now widely grown in countries like Dubai, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, contributes to 70 percent of their green coverage. It absorbs carbon dioxide in large quantities and releases oxygen.
State President Jan Vignan Vedik, Vallamreddy Lakshman Reddy refuted the claim that Conocarpus was a “foreign plant”. He pointed out that many common plants such as tomatoes, potatoes, coffee, tea, wheat, tobacco and chili were also brought to India.
The event was attended by authorized accountant E. Phalgun Kumar and AP Council of Science & Technology (APCOST), who participated in the former secretary of TV Krishna Reddy.
