Special Principal Secretary, State Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Budithi Rajasekhar on Thursday directed the district administrations to ensure continuous, transparent and proactive flow of information to farmers about availability and distribution of urea through various media platforms. The initiative aims to build trust among the farming community, he added.
During a video conference with Joint Collectors, District Agriculture Officers and District Officers of MARKFED, Mr. Rajasekhar reviewed the issues related to supply of urea and procurement of pulses like red gram and black gram by MARKFED. He expressed serious concern over adverse media reports which allegedly highlighted irregularities in distribution, overcharging and inadequate monitoring in some areas. He demanded an explanation from the officials on the cases of uneven distribution, excessive prices, insufficient checks and delay in remedial measures.
Officials have been instructed to provide mandal-wise and Rythu Seva Kendra-wise urea stock figures along with proposed stocks for the next two weeks. Mr. Rajasekhar stressed that agriculture staff must promote judicious use of urea, discourage bulk buying and pre-stocking, and encourage organic and natural farming practices, including farmyard manure, compost and green manure crops. He further stressed that inspection and monitoring should be continuous and proactive, with local officials ensuring proper utilization on the ground.
Director of Agriculture Manazir Jeelani Samoon emphasized the importance of verifying whether the urea reached the actual farmers and was used for cultivation. He directed that district-wise stock details be communicated through bulletins, SMS alerts and press releases and discrepancies or deviations be addressed without delay.
Mr. Samoon also directed dealers to display complete information about urea stocks and prices, while strict action, including criminal cases, should be taken against those involved in overcharging, illegal diversion or interstate smuggling.
Joint Collectors from West Godavari, Guntur, Vizianagaram and Bapatla confirmed the ongoing efforts to inform farmers.
