The Madras High Court ordered the PERAMBALUR district on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) to ensure that the car of the Church of Vedha Mariamman in the village of VepanthatTatai is also encouraged through the streets inhabited by the inhabitants of Kasta (SC) during the temple festivals.
The justice P. Velmurugan issued a direction after the secretary of the District Legal Office (DLSA) measured the width of the streets of the court and reported that it was wide enough for the temple car to pass without any difficulty.
The judge abolished the Proceedings of the Peace Committee in the Pernball Division (RDO), in which several planned caste residents were closed to sign an agreement that the temple car did not have to pass through the streets this year.
He allowed a written petition filed by two planned residents of Kasta, S. Vinoth Kumar and R. Manivannan, to cancel RDO management as illegal and unconstitutional because he supports discriminatory practices and denies the right to worship on the basis of caste.
The judge also ordered the police representatives in the pernball to deploy a reasonable number of police staff to prevent laws and organize problems whenever the temple car runs through the streets inhabited by the planned caste residents.
JUSTICE Velmurugan 11 June ordered the secretary of Dlsa to see the streets and measure their width, because the district administration took the attitude that the temple car was 3.6 meters wide and that it would be difficult to maneuver it through the streets of five meters.
When the case was heard on Wednesday, the Council for some of the Hindu caste in the village raised objections to the inspection report given by DLSA. However, the judge rejected the objections and stated that the DLSA report clearly states that there is enough space for maneuvering the temple car.
