English is our national foreign language and we need to learn it along with our regional languages and technologies, felt the speakers at a conference on ‘Using Mass Media Culture in English Language Teaching, Training and Learning’ organized by English Teachers’ Forum-Bharath in collaboration with the Department of English at Chaitanya Bharati Institute of Technology (CBIT).
A retired English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) professor and founder president of the English Teachers’ Forum – Bharath V. Prakasham argued that English should be learned along with regional languages and that technology is an important tool to bring the language to everyone.
RTV President Ravi Prakash noted that teaching 16th-century poetry as part of English lessons is impractical for Generation Z students, who tend to spend their free time engaging in various forms of mass media, including social media.
Other speakers were English Teachers’ Forum President-Bharath K. Venkat Reddy, General Secretary Anuradha, Conference Organizer Suvarna, Director Student Affairs & Progression at CBIT B. Linga Reddy and Head of the Department of English Shagufta.
