Former versatile England Chris Woakes is convinced that Ben Stokes is “damn” to end his long drought in Australia this year. England last won a series down in 2010–11 under Andrew Strauss, but Woakes feels that the current group, supported by experience and fearless, offensive approach, is able to do history this winter.
At the BBC Radio 5 Woakes interview, Stokes’s leadership, the depth of the team and the fearless approach of England under Brendon McCullum. He said that this team is mentally stronger than the last tour and ready to cope with the pressures of the Australian summer. After Woakes was on two unsuccessful Ashes tours, he understands this challenge, but believes that this team is ready.
“We have a great depth and a great group,” Woakes said. “Going to Australia is always another animal, but I hope the boys can go and do a good job. If the boys in the first XI can stay fit and field, this time we have hell.”
“The cricket Ashes is played with more poison, but these players have played enough international cricket to know what it is. We have been building nicely over the last few years, but we did not exceed in the big series.
England is known for chasing large sums and maintaining constant pressure on opponents, which they believe could bother Australia. He added that key players like Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ollie Pope and Mark Wood form a mature unit ready for high -pressure situations.
Woakes left the international cricket at the beginning of this year after his final test in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against India. The shoulder injury in this match ruled him out of Ashes and led to his decision to retreat from the English team.
His last trip was remarkable when he fired his shoulder attached and one arm in a slingHe shows off his determination. Woakes is now recovering and its goal is to return by the end of the year to the end of the year.
