The second day of the third test between England and India in Lord’s was probably more than just cricket – iconic soil turned red in the sincere honor of the Ruth Strauss Foundation during the annual #REDFORRUTH day, a deeply meaningful initiative that has become a beloved tradition in the English Summer Crikendar.
Now in the seventh year the campaign sees players, employees, broadcasters and thousands of spectators in solidarity with the mission of the foundation. This initiative was founded in memory of Ruth Strauss, the late wife of former Captain England, Sir Andrew Strauss, who supports families with the parents’ terminal disease and transforms grief into powerful community support.
The Lord’s land was flooded in red, while both England and India played together in a heart -shaped formation. In the center, Andrew Strauss, officials and children gathered when the children rang the ceremonial bell to officially start on 2 days. The crowd broke out with applause, united at the moment of respect and memories.
Andrew Strauss was involved in the day, and Andrew Strauss shared: “The first year was apparently deeply emotional for me and my boy. It is very proud for me to see how far the foundation came, and it makes me feel very warm and grim to know that we help so many people and hold our hands through incredibly hard time.

He added: “Two things sitting (cricket and cause) create a great day, but this is largely a focus and peak. What even proud of me is to hear stories about schools and clubs that make their own version of Red for Ruth.
The spectators visiting the second day were encouraged to wear red and arrive early on a special opening before the first ball. Volunteers sold #Redforruth Bucket Hats and distributed Ruth Roses in exchange for gifts, helping to raise the awareness and key resources of the foundation.
The Ruth Strauss Foundation was established in memory of Ruth, which died in December 2018 at the age of 46 from a rare form of lung cancer, which affects non -smokers. The work of the Foundation includes financing the research of rare lung cancer and providing emotional and practical support to families to whom the loss of the parent is facing. Since the first Red for Ruth Day in 2019, the campaign has increased more than 4 million, supporting more than 3,500 families and training more than 1,000 cancer care experts.
The stadium itself was transformed with red-tentic displays, which made the tribute to a significant look and reminder of the ongoing mission of the foundation. The foundation was created to finance research of rare lung cancer and provide support to families that face the loss of parents. Since its foundation, the #Redforruth campaign has become the cornerstone of the cricket calendar and combines the community of memory and support.
