
The opening of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophies for the upcoming test series between India and England was delayed due to the recent tragedy of the airline in Ahmedabad, which led to 275 deaths.
She used to call the Pataudi trophy in honor of former India Captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, The decision to rename her as Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy (ATT) was accepted by the cricket council of England and Wales (ECB).
“Yes, the initiation of ATT Trophy (which was to take place originally on June 14) was delayed due to a recent tragedy in Ahmedabad. It was not canceled. Hopefully in the next few days will be launched just before the series,” BCCI official said under anonymity.
More than 50 British nationals also lost their lives in the accident. Let Air India 171 traveled to London and crashed within minutes of take -off.
The renaming of the trophy is an ode to two live legends, English Pacer James Anderson and Indian launching of the Great Sachin Tendulkar. The series starting with 20 June in Leeds will present five test matches.
He also learned that the ECB received a BCCI request to leave the Cataudi connection to the series by having an individual honor named after him.
According to sources, chairman Tendulkar and ICC Jay Shah want the name Pataudi to remain associated with the Marquee series with respect to the late captain’s contribution to the Indian cricket.
