Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (October 20, 2026) said that encroachments on more than 638 hectares of land in three districts have been cleared in the last few days in evictions.
He declared that the government will work to ensure the interests of the state.
“Our administration’s ‘Rudra Roop’ came across encroachers in three districts who were illegally occupying large tracts of land in Golaghat, Hojai and Nagaon,” Sarma said in a social media post.
“More than 638 hectares of land has been cleared in the operation as we work to secure the interests of Assam,” he added.
Evacuation drives were carried out in three districts last week in order to clear encroaching forest lands.
About 1,000 families were evicted from protected areas during the exercise, officials said.
