Encounter with police near Hyderabad ORR: Recidivist shot in the leg after attacking a police constable in Nalgonda

A repeat offender wanted in multiple theft cases was shot in the leg by the police after he attacked a constable with a knife and an iron rod while trying to evade arrest near the Bongulur Gate on the Outer Ring Road on Tuesday evening.

According to police, a team from Nalgonda district acted on a tip-off that the accused, identified as Bhushmi Srikanth, was traveling in a truck. The team tried to arrest him near Adibatla.

Police said Srikanth attacked a police officer from Nalgonda with a knife and an iron rod before trying to escape. In response, the police opened fire, wounding him in the leg and ending the chase.

Srikanth, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was taken to a hospital in Vanasthalipuram for treatment before being taken to Nalgonda for further investigation. The injured police constable is also said to be stable.

According to the police, Srikanth is a repeat offender involved in more than 10 theft cases. He is also accused of murdering a police constable turned teacher in Narsapur town in Andhra Pradesh four years ago.

Further investigation is underway.
