Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday celebrated two decades of his public life in Midjil, the mandal that elected him as an independent member of the ZPTC in 2006, and used the occasion to express the gratitude of the people and launch a sharp political offensive against the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Addressing a large gathering at the ‘Krutagnatha Sabha’, Mr. Reddy described July 4, 2006 as the day when the people of Midjil “wrote history” by electing him to public office. “The tree that you planted 20 years ago has grown into a mighty tree that stands before you as the Chief Minister today,” he said.

In a scathing attack on former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the BRS leadership, Mr. Reddy questioned the BRS’s desire to return to power. “Is this resource looting by acquaintances and relatives again? he asked.

He also questioned the source of the wealth amassed by BRS leaders during their decades in office. How did KCR earn from a 1,000 acre farm and his family amassed thousands of acres of land and estates?, he asked. Claiming that the BRS represented Telangana’s past rather than its future, the chief minister asserted that the people would not allow the party to return to power.

He also urged people to strengthen the Congress at the national level, saying there was a “historic necessity” for Rahul Gandhi to become the Prime Minister and also urged people to remember Sonia Gandhi’s role in shaping Telangana.

He urged Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramark to embrace Midjil mandal and help transform it into a model district through sustained development. He recommended a suitable post in the government for his former electoral rival Rabbani, whom he defeated in the 2006 ZPTC elections.

Highlighting his governance, he said that the Congress administration was seeking welfare and his rural background gave him a better understanding of local governance. He had earlier inaugurated statues of BR Ambedkar and Congress leader Dyap Gopal Reddy to honor their legacy.
