Kolkata Knight Riders are going through a grueling winless stretch in the IPL 2026 season as they failed to secure a win in their first six matches. After a heavy defeat to Gujarat Titans, veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane spoke about the team’s mental state and stressed the need to remain resilient despite sitting at the bottom of the table.

During the post-match press conference, Rahane spoke candidly the emotional toll of a losing streak but he insisted that the only way forward was to face the reality of their situation head on.
“Our way forward is clear – we fly to Kolkata tomorrow and take it one game at a time,” Rahane said during the post-match press conference.
“We don’t want to think too far ahead. It’s hard when you lose games, but nobody wants to lose. We all want to win, but that’s the nature of this sport. As an athlete, you have to take the hard days, keep your head up and try your best every day.”
Rahane noted that while a loss often leads to rethinking combinations and tactics, the team’s internal environment remains constructive. He emphasized that the support staff is focused on maintaining positivity so that the players don’t lose confidence.
“Whether you win or lose, it’s always a discussion about how we can improve as a unit,” Rahane explained. “We have to accept that things don’t go our way, accept these tough days and take each day as a new opportunity. What we can do is play to our potential, support each other and enjoy each other’s success.”
Playing for the fans
With the team now two losses away from equaling their worst ever losing streak, Rahane hinted that a change in mindset could be the key to a turnaround. He believes that playing with freedom is necessary when the pressure of standing up becomes overwhelming.
“For us, it’s about going out, being positive and playing with freedom. We have nothing to lose,” he said. “Everyone has worked really hard. T20 is all about winning those key moments. One good one here or there can change everything.”
Rahane concluded his address with a message to supporters at the address Eden Gardens, recognizes that the players feel a deep responsibility to the city.
“For KKR fans – I know the support we are getting is amazing,” concluded Rahane. “We are playing for the people of Kolkata and we are trying to do the best for them.
The veteran’s call for resilience comes at a critical time for the franchise. As the team prepares to return to home soil, the focus shifts from last week’s disappointment to the immediate need to find a winning formula in front of a passionate Kolkata crowd.
