“Embrace electric cooking, mobility for the transition to clean energy”

The Center has urged all states, including Telangana, to promote widespread adoption of electric cooking and electric mobility as part of India’s clean energy transition, while calling for concerted efforts to achieve the country’s net zero emissions target by 2070.

Secretary, Office of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power Milind Deore said at the National Workshop on Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) in Hyderabad on Sunday that India had achieved 297.37 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources as of June 30, which is almost 59.5% of its 2003 GW target.

Describing electric cooking and electric mobility as key pillars of the country’s long-term energy strategy, Mr Deore said electric cooking could reduce household cooking costs by 25-35% while reducing dependence on imported LPG and LNG.

He emphasized the need to promote affordable, energy efficient and safe cooking technologies and advocated the distribution of induction cooktops to households, institutions and Anganwadi centres. He felicitated Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for promoting clean energy through the distribution of induction cooktops and cookware across the states.
