The satellite provider of Starlink, led by billionaire Elon Musk, will introduce Aadhaar Authentication to verify customers in India before they come in, reported the PTI press agency with an official statement.
The government approved Starlink to start offering satellite broadband services in the country.
“The unique identification office in India (Uidai) has on board the Internet provider aboard the Starlink Satelink PVT LTD. Starlink Satellite Communication to verify customers, facilitating smooth, secure and very easy,” the statement said.
According to an official estimate, Starlink currently has the ability to aboard approximately 20 customers in India.
“Onboarding Starlink with Aadhaar verification means strong synergy: Trusted digital identity of India combines hands with global satellite technology.
Starlink’s satellite communication was appointed by the Sub-Aautorization Agency and the Sub-Kyc User Agency in the presence of Uidai Bhuvnesh Kumar, Deputy CEO Uida Manish Bhardwaj and Starlink Director India Paril Urdhwareshe.
Starlink has worked with Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio to offer his services in the country.
Internet accelerates up to 200 Mbps
Previously, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, State Minister for Rural Development and Telecommunications, said that a satellite internet provider maintained by Elon Musk can provide a speed of up to 200 MB / s. The government believes it will not affect other telecom operators, PTI said.
“Starlink can only have 20 Lakh’s customers in India and offer up to 200 Mbps. This will not affect telecommunications services,” Minister Pemmasani told the BSNL Review.
The satellite internet services of the company are focused on customers in rural and remote regions of India, an important market for the state provider of telecommunications BSNL.
