Elon Musk sparked a wave of reactions on Indian social media after he shared a post featuring Lord Ganesha, a Hindu deity worshiped as the remover of obstacles.
The Tesla and SpaceX boss shared a screenshot of his interaction with Grok, an artificial intelligence assistant developed by his company xAI. During the exchange, Musk asked the chatbot to identify an image of Lord Ganesha.
Grok analyzed the image – a traditional South Indian brass idol – and correctly identified it as Lord Ganesha, describing the deity as “a widely worshiped Hindu god associated with wisdom, prosperity and new beginnings”. The AI tool even highlighted “key identifying features” of the image, such as the elephant’s head, four arms, sitting posture and mouse at its feet.
Musk’s post quickly went viral, with many users applauding the tech billionaire’s reference to the Hindu god. While some praised the accuracy of the AI, others were amused by Musk’s curiosity and the timing of the post.
The user wrote, “Wonderful to see your curiosity @elonmusk about the ‘Ganesh Murti’ we presented last night on behalf of the India Global Forum @IGFupdates. It symbolizes the removal of obstacles and blessings for good fortune in all your endeavours.”
Another user wrote on X: “Lord Ganesha, the ultimate remover of obstacles – if only we had his wisdom to escape the asteroid fields on the way to Mars! Grok combines ancient vibes with modern AI.”
“Removal of obstacles. First deity to bless all new beginnings,” wrote a third user on X.
“A beautiful tribute to Lord Ganesha – remover of obstacles and symbol of wisdom. Great to see ancient wisdom meet modern AI,” wrote a fourth.
“Just as Steve Jobs traveled to India to seek wisdom and divinity, it looks like Elon is on a similar journey,” wrote a fifth user.
