Elon Musk invited personal challenges for US President Donald Trump on the weekend to re -consider the extensive global tariffs announced last week, Washington Post reported on Tuesday and quoted two sources familiar with this matter. But the attempt was unsuccessful.
The tariffs that affect a wide range of US allies launched a global market routine on Monday and erased trillions.
Tension between allies
Musk’s break with Trump means growing divergence between the President and one of his most influential supporters. Musk donated nearly $ 290 million to support Trump and Republican candidates in the latest election cycle and currently leads what is known as the Ministry of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aimed at limiting federal expenditure.
Musk releases to Navarro
On Saturday, Musk focused on the key business advisor Trump Peter Navarr, the architect behind the tariff and questioned his competences and credibility.
“PhD in Econ from Harvard is a bad thing, not a good thing,” Musk said on X.
His criticism intensified on Tuesday morning after Navarro appeared on CNBC and rejected Muska as a mere “autos assembler”.
“Navarro is really Moron,” Musk said online.
“Tesla is the most vertically integrated car manufacturer in America with the highest percentage of American content,” he added before calling Navarro “stupid than a bag of brick.”
White House: “Boys will be boys”
He asked about the escalating disputes, the print secretary of the White House Karoline Leavitt compiled a dispute.
“Look, these are obviously two individuals who have very different opinions on trade and tariffs,” Leavitt told journalists on Tuesday.
“The boys will be boys and let their public sparring continue. And you should all be very grateful to have the most terrified administration in history.”
She also said that the president “welcomes entry from all sides”.
Musk promotes free trade between US-EUROPE
In an interview with the Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, Musk laid his vision for global trade at the weekend and sharply diverted from Trump’s protectionist agenda.
“At the end of the day, I hope that it will agree that Europe and the United States, in my opinion, ideally move into a situation with a zero tariff,” Musk said.
“I would like more freedom to move between countries in Europe and the United States and work in both if they wish,” he added. “That was definitely my council to the President.”
Criticism of Trump’s tariffs
Trump’s aggressive business policy has triggered a wide conviction – not only from business leaders such as Musk, but from economists, political opponents and some in his own side.
Yet Trump doubled on Monday and threatened another 50% tariff on Chinese imports and left room for selective behavior.
